  • PLANTS

University of Rochester Medical Center’s guide on common medicinal herbs is a must read for getting to know herbs even more. The University of Rochester Medical Center is a private, coeducational and a nonprofit research university. About 3,000 people are dedicated to scientific research, studying common and rare illnesses, from cancer and heart disease to Parkinson’s and pandemic influenza.

The guide takes a look at 12 different herbs, which are: Chamomile (flower), Echinacea (Leaf, stalk, root), Feverfew (leaf), Garlic (Cloves, root), Ginger (Root), Gingko (Leaf), Ginseng (Root), Goldenseal (Root, rhizome), Milk thistle (Fruit), Saint John’s wort (Flower, leaf), Saw palmetto (Fruit) & Valerian (Root).

Keep in mind that if you start experimenting with more herbs, that most herbs have not been completely tested to see how well they work or to see if they interact with other herbs, supplements, medicines, or foods. It’s important to tell your healthcare providers about any herb or dietary supplement you are using.
